The Amazing Gift

Once upon a time there lived a woman who was not too old and not very young.  She resided with her animal family in a not too fancy home.

She lived there for many years, faithfully paying her mortgage and property taxes.  But one day she was no longer able to keep up the taxes and the bank became very nasty and unreasonable.

The people at the bank made her life a living hell.  They smiled out of one side of their face, and crunched her up into little pieces with the other.  She felt as though she was being eaten alive by a horrible monster.

In desperation she decided to sell her property.  She’d heard the nightmare tales told to her by friends.  She’d seen and read about all the foreclosures happening and didn’t want that to happen to her!  With great trepidation she let her fingers walk through the yellow pages of the phone book and pick out a realtor.  She hoped for the best, but was skeptical.  Her best friend had just been foreclosed on and her real estate agent had been wishy-washy and unhelpful.

The real estate agents came out to look at the house.  Jan and Tom Monson were their names and they seemed nice enough, but one never knows.  Lip service seemed to be the flavor of the day and the woman refused to get her hopes up.

They sat down and discussed the situation.  Tom and Jan mentioned how they liked to help people and were in the realty business, not to make money, but to help.  That seemed like a fairy tale and so far fetched as to be a tad unbelievable.

Yet, when push came to shove, Jan and Tom stepped up to the plate and saved the day.  They went above and beyond what anyone could even imagine, and thanks to their unflagging efforts, the property sold!

Then, a catastrophe.  Escrow fell through.  The woman began to panic.  The bank was going to foreclose in short order.  There wasn’t much time to save the day.  Miracle of miracles, Tom and Jan figured out a way to stop the bank cold.  It was an act of heroic proportions and the woman was amazed and touched.  Not many people would have gone to such an extent to help a virtual stranger.  Yet Tom and Jan were right there, helping in every way they could think of.

In the end, they were able to sell the woman’s home.  Fear of foreclosure was now a thing of the past.  And not only did they sell the property, they got her a good price and helped to get her moved.  It was a miracle!  It was a gift from the heart.  The woman had no words to portray her thanks.  Words hardly seemed enough—and yet the Monsons were content, knowing that they’d helped someone in need.

The moral of this story is that one should never doubt the Monsons.  Their word is golden.  Without any prompting they took on a situation that could have resulted in disaster and turned it around into a wondrous thing.  They volunteered their help generously and graciously.  Anyone who is lucky enough to have them as their real estate agents will be pleased and blessed.  They truly DO care about people and not just the job.

To Tom and Jan Monson,

I just wanted to take the time to thank you for all that you did for me.  You turned what could have been a nightmare into a fairy tale ending.

These days, when someone says they care about people and not just the money, it’s a bit hard to believe.  It seems as though the work ethic of the country has deteriorated alarmingly.

You have proved to be the exception to the rule.  When you say you care about helping people, you put your money where your mouth is, so to speak.  You both went above and beyond what anyone would have expected and created an outcome that was golden.  You didn’t let the toughness of the situation stand in your way, you simply found solutions to the problems.

I can hardly believe how fortunate I was in having you as my real estate agents.  I don’t think there are many out there who care so much about helping people in addition to earning a living.  I’ve sold several properties and never had such a gratifying experience.  People did their jobs with a minimum of effort, got the job done, but didn’t do more than necessary.  You are in a category by yourselves!!

Again, thank you so much for making this an experience of the heart as well as an experience of the bank book.  I feel as though I have gained two friends, and that is a gift to be treasured.

   Happily and affectionately, Jann S.
